After the great success of the four editions, Let me Italian you is ready to launch the fifth and spring edition of DISCOVER SICILY !
The weather in Sicily in May is warm enough to swim from the many beautiful beaches found around Sicily’s stunning coastline.
DISCOVER SICILY is an innovative project whose purpose is to make the participants live a professional experience for those who love photography and video making.
The main goal of the project is to valorise and promote the historical and sunning island of Sicily, in Italy, trough photos, reportage, videos made by talent polish photographers (don’t need to be professional). DISCOVER SICILY wants to enrich the professional and academic path of the photographer, moreover it wants to enrich his portfolio.
Why Sicily? Sicily is the largest of the Italian islands. It has long been a crossroads and crucible of Mediterranean culture, and the island today is a fascinating palimpsest in which Greek temples, Norman churches and Baroque palazzos emerge from the rich fabric. Starting from the artistic city of Catania, we will show you the UNESCO World heritage sites, Siracusa , one of the world's most famous active volcanoes, Etna, and the Sicilian jewel "Taormina".
"If someone should spend just one day in Sicily and ask: What should I visit? I would answer without hesitating... Taormina... This small village is only a landscape, yet a landscape where you can find everything to seduce your eyes, your spirit, your imagination." Guy de Maupassant.
The tour of the cities is organized in collaboration with local guides, who knows all the sights of Sicily and will take you on a guided tour.
Exclusevely for this edition, the photographer Yan Pekar will support the participant during all the days of the projects. He will prepare daily photography activities and teach to you as much as he can. Yan Pekar is one of our main partner for Discover Barcelona. Exclusevely for this edition, he will come from Barcelona to Sicily.
In order to improve the participants’ professional and academic skills, Yan Pekar will lead several actvities:
- Street photography: “The world is a stage” - how to treat people as actors and location as a stage.
- Portrait photography: Photo sparring - how to talk with a person you photograph in such a way that creates emotions.
- Aesthetics in photography: try to capture a clean aesthetically pleasing landscape image.
- Photography as an art of seeing beyond obvious (how to approach location as a pro).
Further, there will be an Outdoor Shooting with local models in the stunning location of Taormina.
How is DISCOVER SICILY organized and what is its output?
The role of participant is to explore Sicily with his “camera”. You will work alone or in pair (your fellow could be one your friend). The project lasts 4 days.

This 2,700-year-old city played a key role in ancient times, when it was one of the major powers of the Mediterranean world.
